The restrictions placed on alterations due to the bluestone walls were a design dilemma, but nothing is too daunting for Mary. The Challenge: A Heritage Design Dilemma

The heritage listing meant that the old kitchen couldn’t be pulled out in the conventional way, as the bluestone walls couldn’t be penetrated. This posed a significant hurdle, but Mary’s expertise proved invaluable. She possesses an uncanny ability to work with any product or modular system, and when conventional solutions fall short, she’s not afraid to sprinkle a little design magic.

Height Over Width: The Winning Formula

Although the space lacked width, it compensated with height. By leveraging clever technology and innovative appliances, Mary transformed this kitchen into an entertainer’s dream. The sink was strategically relocated to the rear wall, and the induction cooktop took center stage on the island. What’s more, an integrated downdraft recirculating rangehood eliminated the need for an overhead extractor, optimizing the available space. Yes, it resulted in some lost storage below, but heritage limitations meant working within specific wall constraints.

Small but Mighty: A Kitchen that Packs a Punch

Measuring just 3000mm in width, this kitchen may be petite, but it packs a powerful punch. With an integrated fridge-freezer and a combi microwave oven, there’s nothing this pint-sized kitchen can’t handle. Ample cabinets above provide more storage than one might expect in such a compact space. While the island serves as a prep area without seating, the nearby dining table ensures plenty of room for socializing and mealtime gatherings.
